Ben & Jerry’s trains production employees more quickly and effectively using 3D training

Ben & Jerry’s is a world-famous ice cream brand, known for its tubs full of large chunks and swirls. At its modern factory in Hellendoorn, Ben & Jerry’s produces ice cream for the European market, with a focus on quality, speed and a smoothly running production line.

The challenge
Ben & Jerry’s faces limited training opportunities within production and logistics. Employees currently rely heavily on on-the-job training and written work instructions, which means that training production employees is time-consuming and puts pressure on planning and productivity.
Furthermore, employee versatility is limited because they do not always possess the right knowledge and skills to employ multiple production lines and roles. Ben & Jerry’s therefore requires an efficient, digital training method that enables employees to become more versatile more quickly and to develop further into fully-fledged operators.

The solution
Ben & Jerry’s uses a digital 3D training programme from MetaChef on the freezer in the production line. The training is tailor-made, so that staff can familiarise themselves with the components and practise straight away.
In this way, Ben & Jerry’s trains production employees without everything having to take place on the production floor. In the training room, they follow the course together on a large screen or individually. This enables them to apply their knowledge more effectively and makes them more versatile and flexible in their roles.
The training can be expanded to include new machines and processes. MetaChef supports the roll-out with a workshop and assists with the initial evaluation, so that the benefits of the training become clear.
