SVO replaces workbooks with digital 3D learning tools
SVO Vakopleiding Food is the national vocational school for the food industry. They train professionals for butcher shops, fresh specialty stores, supermarkets, food service, and the food industry.
The challenge
An important part of the lessons at SVO is practicing product recognition, which falls under the subject of product knowledge. This was done during practical lessons with real food products, in combination with workbooks with images.
But the practical lessons are costly and therefore cannot be used unlimitedly. The workbooks were supposed to partially compensate for this problem, but in practice they were not ideal:
- Students didn't always bring them or lost them;
- Practicing outside of lessons remained limited;
- Images never provide real insight into the product, because you can't view it from all angles.
Our solution
Since 2020, SVO has replaced physical workbooks with the MetaChef online learning environment, which is used both before and after practical lessons.
Students now practice product recognition, names, and preparation methods for twelve product groups, such as beef, chicken, pork, fish, as well as fruit, vegetables, and more.
Thanks to the interactive 3D learning tools, students can view products from all angles in 3D and practice anytime, anywhere. This way, they are better prepared for both practical lessons and tests.
