HAN combines company visits with interactive 3D learning tools
The Food & Business program at HAN University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen) is the largest higher professional food education program in the Netherlands. Students learn everything about developing, producing, and marketing food products.

The challenge
To properly understand how production processes work and what is involved, students need insight into the entire food chain from raw material to end product. Students used to learn this primarily during company visits.
However, due to stricter safety and hygiene requirements, it became increasingly difficult to allow students in. Additionally, the complete process was not always visible, as some process steps take place within closed systems.
Our solution
Since 2023, HAN has been using MetaChef's online learning environment: as a supplement when company visits are possible, and as an alternative when they are not.
Students can now study production processes and gain knowledge about six different food production processes: from the bakery process and cheese making to the production of veggie burgers.
Thanks to the interactive 3D learning tools, students can learn anytime and anywhere and even look inside machines. As a result, they understand much better how food products are produced. This is valuable knowledge for their projects.

"This 3D application is a real game changer and enables our students to virtually experience and understand factory processes in a way that was previously impossible."
