PCPT connects theory and practice in process technology with 3D learning tools
The Practical Center for Process Technology East (PCPT) is a collaboration between ROC van Twente, Zone.college, and the regional business community. Together, they work to reduce the shortage of employees in the process industry, encourage the progression of secondary school students to relevant programs, and offer training programs for both young people and working people.
The challenge
PCPT wanted to start practical classes, but didn't yet have any process machinery or equipment. Only textbooks were available, which didn't give students a realistic understanding of processes and installations.
Therefore, there was a need for a solution that could simulate practical experience until the physical machinery was available and then be used in addition.
The solution
PCPT has launched the MetaChef online learning environment, which allows students to gain preliminary knowledge about seven production processes: from brewing beer and the operation of utilities to soap making.
With the interactive 3D learning tools, they can see how processes work, view the inside of machines, and practice situations that would normally only be encountered in practice.
This gives students a realistic understanding of the process industry before they even start working with a physical machine. And now that the machines are in place, the interactive 3D learning tools continue to be a valuable addition to the practical training sessions.
