EIT Food shares agricultural knowledge at scale with interactive 3D learning tools
EIT Food is the largest European innovation platform in the agrifood sector. Their mission is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, future-proof food system through education, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The challenge
The urgency for sustainable and regenerative agriculture is growing rapidly, but the practical application of available knowledge is lagging behind. Traditional training is too theoretical and provides insufficient insight into the complex relationships between soil, biodiversity, water use, and yield.
At the same time, EIT Food aims to train 200,000 participants across Europe in the coming years through their Skills Academies. This group is linguistically and substantively very diverse, which means existing learning materials fall short.
To reach participants in all European countries and spread sustainability knowledge widely, a scalable, accessible, and visual learning solution is needed that works in multiple languages and connects with different levels.
Without such an approach, it remains difficult to make complex agricultural principles understandable and to train sustainable choices at scale.
Our solution
EIT Food works with MetaChef on Future Farm Lab, where interactive 3D learning tools transform complex agricultural principles into understandable, practice-oriented learning experiences. Users make decisions within realistic farming scenarios and immediately see the impact on soil quality, biodiversity, water use, and climate.
The 3D learning tools contain customized agricultural situations, supplemented with micro-missions and cases where participants learn by doing. The first micro-missions address urgent agricultural challenges, such as declining olive and grain yields, rising input costs, and soil crises, where users discover how smart choices can increase the resilience of agricultural systems.
Future Farm Lab is fully web-based, works on all devices, and supports multiple languages, making it suitable for diverse learning styles and knowledge levels across Europe.
By making complex processes visual, interactive, and accessible, sustainable agricultural principles become not only understandable, but also scalable — for vocational and higher education institutions, farmers, and training programs.
