VISTA College strengthens product knowledge with interactive 3D learning materials

VISTA College is a vocational education institution (MBO) based in Limburg, operating in the world of hospitality and tourism. The school trains professionals for fields including kitchen, bakery, tourism, front-of-house service, and hospitality.

The challenge
Within VISTA College's hospitality programs, product knowledge is a core component. Students learn to recognize and name products such as cuts of meat, fish species, vegetables, fruit, and wine. This knowledge is essential for functioning effectively in the kitchen and front-of-house service.
In practice, this is difficult to organize. Students learn products best by actually seeing them, but hands-on lessons with real products are expensive and require extensive preparation.
This led to several challenges:
- Students need to recognize many products but see them too infrequently in practice.
- Hands-on lessons are expensive, resulting in few opportunities to practice.
- Outside of practical sessions, there is hardly any space to practice.
- Students sometimes start practical lessons or internships less well prepared.
Our solution
VISTA College uses MetaChef's online learning environment to strengthen the connection between theory and practice and to support students in training their product knowledge.
Students practice product recognition with interactive 3D models and assignments. This gives them a visual understanding of eight product groups, such as beef, chicken, pork, fish species, but also cheese and vegetables. With assignments on recognition, naming, and applications, they can test their knowledge. Students can practice this independently on their laptop or phone.

"Innovation on the menu: learning to cook in a new dimension. With VR and 3D web, VISTA College students deepen their product knowledge in an interactive and playful way. They explore products, origins, and properties before they even touch a pan."
